Efficiency and Mechanism of Pathogenic bacteria inactivation by Non-Thermal Plasma Activated Water

چکیده
Four pathogenic bacteria were treated by plasma activated water (PAW) with different duration. The inactivation was evaluated via colony forming unit (CFU) count and fluorescent spectroscope. After PAW treatment 20 min, Effective inactivation of S. mutans, S. aureus and E. coli was achieved, while weak inactivation effect to C. albicans. It was inferred that hydrogen peroxide and atomic oxygen was the active species in PAW.

Surface Decontamination by Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma
Background: Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), a source of non-thermal plasma, is used in surface decontamination. Objective: To study the effect of DBD plasma treatment, we evaluated the effect of plasma exposure time on inactivation of Bacillus subtilis. Results: Applying the DBD plasma to the culture of B. subtilis caused complete sterilization of the surface without any thermal effects. In...
متن کاملEffects of Background Fluid on the Efficiency of Inactivating Yeast with Non-Thermal Atmospheric Pressure Plasma
Non-thermal plasma at atmospheric pressure has been actively applied to sterilization. However, its efficiency for inactivating microorganisms often varies depending on microbial species and environments surrounding the microorganisms. We investigated the influence of environmental factors (surrounding media) on the efficiency of microbial inactivation by plasma using an eukaryotic model microb...
متن کاملCell damaging by irradiating non-thermal plasma to the water: Mathematical modeling of chemical processes
Recently non-thermal plasma (NTP) is applied for many therapeutic applications. By NTP irradiating to the tissues or cell-lines, the water molecules (H2O) would be also activated leading to generate hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). By irradiating plasma to bio-solution, its main output including vacuum UV to UV causes the photolysis of H2O leading to generat...

Background & Aims of the Study: The heterotrophic bacteria are widely used as a water microbial pollution index for drinking water. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of metallic nanoparticles such as Zero Valent Iron (ZVI), Titanium dioxide (TiO2) and Zinc oxide (ZnO) on Heterotrophic Bacter...
متن کاملInactivation of Gram-Negative Bacteria by Low-Pressure RF Remote Plasma Excited in N2-O2 Mixture and SF6 Gases
The role of low-pressure RF plasma in the inactivation of Escherichia coli O157, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, and Enterobacter sakazakii using N2-O2 and SF6 gases was assessed. 1×109 colony-forming units (CFUs) of each bacterial isolate were placed on three polymer foils. The effects of pressure, power, distance from the source, and exposure time to plasma gases were optimized. The...
